Specialist Notes
III work: First edition of the description of the paintings executed by the neoclassical painter Andrea Appiani (1754-1817) in the throne room of Palazzo Reale in Milan. For the occasion, these booklets were distributed among all those present, with the text in Italian and French, which received praise "worthy of the pictorial work", but also the ferocious criticism of Foscolo who was present. After the bombings of 1943 many of the frescoes were damaged or destroyed and it is for this reason that today this description appears to be a precious testimony.
