Venice, Giovan Maria Bonelli, 1554. In 4th. Typographic brand on the title page and at the end of the volume, marginal browning, restored tear on the plate at the opening of the first part, eighteenth-century binding in half leather and cardboard, spine partially detached, gap in the upper casing. Ex libris on the back cover of the Library of the Alessio brothers, circa 18th century.
Specialist Notes
Historian born in Milan 1459, died perhaps in 1519. He served Lodovico il Moro, by whom he was appointed valet of Gian Galeazzo Sforza; after the fall of the Moro, he suffered pain and very serious damage. Noteworthy is his Historia patria (princeps 1503), the first history of Milan in the vernacular from its origins to 1499, precious (although often lacking in critical sense) starting from the age of the Communes, for the sources used, many of which are now lost.
