Information
Venice, printed by Giambatista Albrizzi, 1745. In folio. [20] chalcographic plates within rich decorative frames, 20 titles within cartouches that enclose the subject of the song and 20 chalcographic figured initials at the beginning of each song 20 finals of which 6 full page, binding in brown calfskin, plates framed by a gold-embossed frame, spine with 5 raised bands, a gusseted compartment with gold-embossed author and title, gilt edges, some peeling and missing parts on the front plate.
Specialist Notes
The splendid panels, a masterpiece of rococo graphics, were engraved by Felice Polanzani based on drawings by Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (1683-1754i. In our copy the portrait is that of Maria Teresa as an old woman. Cohen-Ricci, 978; Brunet V, 666; Tassiana Bergamo, 261: «This is undoubtedly the most ornate and magnificent edition and does great honor to the city of Venice»; Choix, 18734.
