I work: first edition. In 1840 Pierre Joseph Proudhon (Besançon 1809-Paris 1865) published "Qu'est ce que la Propriété?" (What is property) confirming his opinion, for which he is certainly remembered, "Property is theft", an opinion also appreciated by Marx, and reiterating his fight against property as a means of exploiting man on the man (the means of production and the house in which one lives must, however, belong to those who use them) in order to guarantee justice and social equality. In 1862, twenty years later, in his new work "Theorie de la propriété, he will re-examine the right of property after a long intellectual journey of reflection and a profound development of his thought, giving the right of property the function of bulwark of individual freedom and the merit of social progress in addition to the fundamental political function of limiting the power of the state.
