Information

Massive typescript with autograph corrections of the largest collection of poems by E.A. Mario, grouped into various sections with different titles, Paggine d' a Vita, Doppo 'a sicondaWW, Poesie 'e  contracted love, etc. for a total of over 200 numbered sheets, 215 x 150 mm.: attached are two letters from G. Tricarico to Giovanni Artieri, 4 and 9 July 1965, about the draft edition (never realised) of the same and three letters from E.A. Mario to Giovanni Artieri of 1954-'56, in which the esteem and friendship between the two is renewed.

Specialist Notes

"The volume will include all the poems of your and my great friend not included in the previous collections and concludes his fifty-year poetic activity. To track them down among the papers left to me ... it was a real effort. It consists of 6 parts: Paggine d' a vita, poems of a generic nature; Paggine d'amore, of obvious content; Sunette d'o core cuntente, reminiscences of an age in which contentment is a must; After 'a second World War, melancholic poems (few); Poems 'and  ll'ammore contractiempo, also of obvious significance andCom 'e ll'ate, five essays of reduction in dialect from Leopardi (Solid Sparrow and Per le nozze della sister< /i> and from Anacreon). To you who honor Naples and know of Naples to interpret without rhetoric the simple and yet not easy soul, the task of doing justice with the care of a man of letters and a friend, to an author who was quoted rather than read. (...)" (letter from Tricar ico to Artieri of July 4, 1965).

This is the project of the volume never realized by Tricarico and Artieri, whose definitive title should have been Funtane and Funtanelle , with the preface by Artieri. A volume that would have given credit to a great interpreter of Neapolitan culture, not popular but true culture. Artist who knew how to range from Neapolitan song to Italian poetry innervated by classical and romantic authors, famous not only for the Legend of the Piave, but for having animated and spread Neapolitan culture throughout the world. The present corpus of manuscripts is related to the edition of Funtane e Funtanelle published by Morano in 1984, but a dutiful philological work will be necessary to understand the relationship between the texts presented here and those edited by Ottavio Nicolardi. A manuscript therefore to be studied.
