Specialist Notes
The volume has a calligraphic title page, a sign that it is a beautiful copy in the hand of Baitelli or one of his trusted secretary. The codex opens with an intriguing "Rotolo delli Sediziosi" which lists in alphabetical order the names of the seditious divided by family, from Aiardi to Zeno. In total 72 families where potential rioters lurk. This is followed by a "Passio Rusticalis Sinagoge" in verses of 6 pp. From pg.11 begins the "History of the Born of the Plebs of Brescia for the Entry of the Major Council" which anticipates the various sections of the code, all relating to historical events, decisions of the College, resolutions, Orations, Memorials etc. The final paper, c.167r, bears a signature date that can be interpreted as the term ante quem: Venice, the last day of March 1645.
< /p>Lodovico Baitelli was born in Brescia to the noble Costanzo and lived in the fourth and fifth decades of the century. XVII. He studied at the University of Padua and graduated in law. Back in Brescia, he played an important role in local political life and was sent to Venice several times to present the interests and requests of his city. And in Venice the ability to speak and the solid legal knowledge earned him, in addition to the title of count and knight, the appointment as consultor in iure. Consultations, considerations, writings, opinions, summaries and historical-juridical summaries, writings, for the most part, in collaboration with Scipione Feramosca, they testify to this activity of B., during which he had to deal with the most varied subjects.
