Prince Raimondo Montecuccoli (Montecuccolo, 1609 - 1680) was an imperial general, he participated in the war of the Thirty years and multiple battles, leaving valuable military works. The volume contains his best works on military topics: 'Aphorisms of the art of war', 'Of war', 'Of the use of ancient war books after the decay of Roman discipline', 'De' dragoni', 'Of mines ', 'Of the entrenched camps and the way to entrench in the countryside', 'Aphorisms reflected on the practices of the last wars in Hungary', 'Aphorisms applied to the possible war with the Turk in Hungary', etc...
In 1807, Captain Ugo Foscolo above all set out to claim the "Italian glory" of a warrior philosopher, re-presenting the neglected pages of the Aphorisms and Commentarii in their genuine language , rediscovering and restoring his less spurious Italian writing. One of the first and most complete philological operations conducted by Foscolo.
