The Giuntina of 1527 «is not the material reproduction of a codex, but a critical edition, made with the comparison of several texts». Among these is the Palatine songbook (formerly Palatine code 418) of the National Central Library of Florence, which can be dated to the end of the 13th century. The texts collected in the Giuntina come from the Aragonese Collection and from other songbooks now lost. The Aragonese Collection is also a collection of texts edited by Angelo Poliziano created in 1476-'77, at the behest of the sovereign Federico d'Aragona who asked Lorenzo de' Medici for a collection of texts; the Magnificent gave the task to Poliziano.
