Specialist Notes

Rare extraordinary issue of a magazine specialized in other, dedicated to one of Pasolini's most shocking films. Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom came out in 1975, a few weeks after the director's obscure murder, and often hastily considered the desperate poetic testament of Pier Paolo Pasolini, "Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom is a crystalline work, structurally complex , based on an allegorical realism where the presumed objectivity of the representation draws on such a quantity of direct and indirect citations and references to other forms of expression (painting, music, literature, even philosophy) that it often reaches a metatextual depth. (...) Pasolini's project was to short-circuit the rhetoric of the cinematographic medium through itself: providing corporeal concreteness to the cold verbal descriptions of the novel, making the massacre a daily and normalized gesture, transforming the cinema from a daydream into a nightmare, for arouse the active reaction of the stupid cultural commodity to which the spectator is reduced. " (Treccani online). The producer Alberto Grimaldi was prosecuted for obscenity and corruption of minors and in 1976 the seizure of the film was decreed, which disappeared from the screens before being put back into circulation in 1978. In this volume of 66 pages some cruel scenes cut from the film are illustrated, but also a series of articles by illustrious critics and various ancillary material including, the criticism of Callisto Cosulich, the device of the sentence, the comment of Moravia, the opinion of Vittorio Virga, a thousand voices against censorship etc. 1975
