Specialist Notes

Fourth edition of this work, published for the first time in 1525 after various editorial passages, which is the most representative work of the multifaceted intellectual physiognomy of the humanist Mario Equicola (1470 - 1525). The autographed manuscript of the work has been preserved and is undoubtedly the most useful testimony to reconstruct the position of Equicola, supporter of the "courtly theory" and proud opponent of Bembian classicism, in the sixteenth-century question of language. The distance from the already dominant linguistic canon pushed the printers, as early as 1526 (date of the first reprint, one year after Equicola's death), to retouch, as was normal, the linguistic aspect of the text. & Nbsp ;
