Specialist Notes
Edition famous for the long judicial case that led Manzoni, not informed of the press, to denounce the publisher. This story contributed to the birth of copyright. According to the statements of Le Monnier, the copies printed, all dated 1845, were in total 16,000, of which only 3,000 were printed in 1845, while the others appeared in the following years. The first edition is distinguished by the thinner and smoother paper, by the fillets of the title characters on the title page. This copy belongs to the first edition.
