Specialist Notes

Johann Wier (Grave, 1515 - Tecklenburg, February 24, 1588) was a Dutch physician and demonologist, a pupil of the German philosopher and physician Agrippa of Nettesheim. De praestigiis Daemonum met eight editions while the author was alive and from 1566 it was divided into six books: the first book of the work deals with the origin and powers of the devil, the second with magicians, the third of the witches, the fourth of the possessed and of those who believe they are victims of evil, the fifth of their healing and the sixth of the punishment to be inflicted on witches and wizards.
