Initially a doctor, Guillaume-Antoine Olivier (1756-1814) became one of the most authoritative French naturalists and entomologists. He traveled for a long time in the Eastern Mediterranean countries, collecting a rich collection of naturalistic specimens from Turkey, Asia Minor, Persia, Egypt.
