Specialist Notes

Since she was a teenager, the French explorer and orientalist writer Alexandra David-Néel & nbsp; (Saint-Mandé, 1868 - Digne, 1969), defended his personal choices by demonstrating his sense of rebellion against contemporary social models and revealing his character always thirsty for novelty and travel. She was the first Western woman to enter Tibet at that time unknown and forbidden to foreigners and remained there for about 10 years isolating herself in completely inaccessible monasteries. & Nbsp; He deepened his studies on cults and on the religious life of Tibetan Buddhism, collecting a considerable amount of documentation and observations. In 1924 she managed to reach Lhasa, after eight months of walking, assuming the semblance of “Khadoma”, a particular female Tibetan spirit capable of protecting from the misfortunes of life: she therefore traveled safely and was well received by the locals. Her long, incredible and fascinating life as an explorer, orientalist, anthropologist (she died at the age of 101) has inspired numerous documentaries, films and theatrical performances.
