- A nice collection of 56 photos, all mounted on loose sheets, c. 1880, size photos mostly 240 x 180 mm, nicely preserved in a fitting brown calf folder/case, with title impressed in gold on upper cover and spine; most photographs with manuscript descriptions in Italian at bottom of the sheet (some photos faded). An uncommon ensemble as containing many photos depicting local characters, like several Bedouins (portrayed in different life scenes, in group with their camels, while they smoke, others in front of a café, in the desert), then a walking kitchen, an Arab school, a group of fellahs, two beggars, an Arab woman with her small child on shoulders, a young woman in her daily dress, street vendors and some mosques, graves of the Mamluks etc., and a nice portrait of Isma’il Pascià (1830-1895).
Specialist Notes
Un insieme non comune, in quanto contiene molte fotografie che ritraggono personaggi locali, come numerosi Beduini (ritratti in diverse scene di vita, in gruppo con i propri cammelli, mentre fumano, davanti ad una caffetteria, nel deserto). Inoltre si ha una cucina ambulante, una scuola araba, un gruppo di fellah, due mendicanti, una donna araba con il suo bambino sulle spalle, una giovane donna con il suo abito quotidiano, venditori ambulanti e alcune moschee, tombe dei mamelucchi etc.., e un bel ritratto di Isma'il Pascià (1830-1895).
