Specialist Notes
First edition of Porcacchi's work, illustrated by the splendid copper engravings by Girolamo Porro which, placed at the opening of each chapter, reproduce scenes of funeral ceremonies according to the ancient use of different peoples, from the Romans to the "Egyptians" and the "Scithi". The plates, which were inspired by the figures of Woeiriot from the Pinax iconicus antiquorum published in Lyon in 1556, enhance the talent and qualities of the engraver.
