Specialist Notes

Bizarre and extravagant character, Anton Francesco Dóni (Florence 1513 - Monselice 1574), was certainly one of the most original writers of his time with a restless, curious and quarrelsome character and fervent and versatile ingenuity. From being a served friar he became a secular friar wandering around Italy and living extravagantly until his death. He loved to call himself "crazy" by contrasting his ingenious restlessness with unhappiness & nbsp; and human insanity. His numerous writings, in verse and prose, embrace various topics and sometimes seem to be ahead of his time by welcoming the Copernican ideas or the dreams of Thomas More.
