Milan, Printing of the Ambrosiana Library, 1751. In 4 °. Front door with beautiful portrait of St. Charles finely engraved in copper by G. B. Sassi, title in red and black print with engraved vignette, some initials in copper, others in woodcut, copy in beards, coeval hardcover binding.
In 1610 Giussano published, in synchrony with the canonization, the Vita di s. Carlo Borromeo (Rome); the autograph is in the Ambrosiana Library (F.185 inf.). The work enjoyed considerable success, but was immediately the target of very harsh criticism. Despite this it was reprinted and re-proposed several times: in Brescia in 1612 "again by the same author revised and purged of some errors that are in the Roman edition"; in 1618 it was translated into German by Ippolito Guarinoni; it was then released in Rome in 1679, edited by Pietro Martire Merizola; in Milan, in 1751, in the Latin translation by Bartolomeo De Rossi and with the annotations by Baldassarre Oltrocchi, both oblates of S. Carlo (the present edition); in Monza in 1856 and finally, in the English version, in London in 1884.
