Specialist Notes

A collection of works on heresy including the first edition of the story written by the Bolognese scholar and marinist poet Ridolfo Campeggi (1565-1624) on the tragic vicissitudes of Costantino Saccardino, his son Bernardino, and the brothers Pellegrino and Girolamo de 'Todeschi. These were sentenced to death by hanging and burning in 1622 with the accusation of having smeared sacred images with excrement and spread blasphemous signs as well as praising the destruction of papal power.
