Large architectural frontispiece composed on both sides of medallions depicting the classical authors, at the bottom by the seven muses surrounding the Florentine lily of the Marca Giuntina, in the center by the long and detailed title of the work imprinted in red and black in Gothic characters, inhabited xylographic initials , large vignettes opening the various books, some burnished papers with halos, worn edges on the title page and colophon, 19th century binding in half parchment and cardboard. On the back of the guard sheet, two Latin couplets by contemporary hand dedicated "Ad Angelum Roscium optimum ludi magistrum".
Specialist Notes
Valuable illustrated edition of Valerio Massimo's Moralia, based on the revised text by Oliviero d’Arzignano, with the addition of 24 exempla recently found by Aldus Manutius. The dedication is addressed to Antonio Contarini by the philologist Luca Panetius of Ulcinj, who edited the edition for the Giunta (Montenegro).
