Specialist Notes

Giannone (Ischitella di Napoli, 1676-1748) published his main work after twenty years of work. Different and conflicting interpretations on the facts contained in the text (Giannone, advocate of the lay state, illustrates the ecclesiastical arbitrators with great effectiveness, and leads the criticism of papal institutions with rare skill) meant that many copies of the first edition, the present, were destroyed, forcing the author to leave the Kingdom quickly, where he was excommunicated, while the book was put on the Index. & nbsp;
