Specialist Notes

Rare original edition (Graesse cites an elusive edition of 1638, which does not exist), probably published in Rome without typographical indications. The study concerns the Gymnasium of Naples in Roman times and is rich in notes on its socio-political importance, on the shows celebrated in it, including the Capitoline Games, on the archeology of its building, etc. "Work of great value among the scholars. After having spoken extensively of all the games and shows that are performed in Naples both in the times preceding Augustus, and in later times, it shows that all the Gymnasiums of the Hellenistic world, and consequently that that of Naples had been absolutely founded for corporal exercises and not for those of the spirit ". (Giustiniani). Lasena (Naples, 1590-Rome, 1636) was a famous jurist, scholar and philologist. & Nbsp; Vinciana, 4476: "Interesting archaeological treatise".
