Lucca, 1766. In 12th. 2 vols. Portrait of the author engraved on copper at the ante-door at vol. I, allegorical front door engraved on copper in vol. II, intaglio vignettes on the title pages, 15 copper plates out of text in vol. I, 16 tables in vol. II, xylographic headstones, coeval vellum binding, gold title gusset on the back, spray cuts.

Specialist Notes

Valuable edition of Forteguerri published under the Greek pseudonym of "Carteromaco", accompanied by beautiful vignettes at the opening of each canto, drawn by Pier Antonio Novelli and engraved by Antonio Baratti. The copy shows the ownership note of the lawyer on the title pages. "Giuseppe Ravizza", first creator (1855) of the typewriter ("cembalo scribe") with fixed keyboard and automatic movement of the carriage and paper. In 1883 he patented the first model with visible writing. Melzi I, p. 179.
