Venice, Gualtiero Scoto, 1552. In 4th. Typographic mark on the title page and at the end of the volume, figured drop caps, restoration a * 2 with partial lack of the text, some slight halo and small stain, small tear without loss at S4, rare annotations by ancient hand, binding of the century. XVII in full leather with author and title within gusset and friezes embossed in gold on the back, small lack of the cap, slight defects.
Specialist Notes
First edition in Italian of this work, originally published in Latin the previous year and translated into vernacular by Bembo himself. Sabellico's work continues and deals with the "modern" history of Venice, from 1487 to 1513. On the verso of card 72, the Cardinal traces a laudatory description of Christopher Columbus, as a humanistic symbol of going beyond the boundaries of the known, of the "humano soul eager for new things". & nbsp;
