Specialist Notes

Portable atlas of botany, divided into fifteen classes each containing finely drawn and watercolor plants, flowers and mushrooms, each described with its Latin scientific term and its Italian equivalent. It was & nbsp; Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748-1836) & nbsp; in 1789 to compile a natural system of plants with 15 classes and 100 orders, while Augustin de Candolle & nbsp; in 1813 distinguished the science of classification, which he called 'taxonomy', from procedures for the definition, description and presentation of individual species and systematic groups, which he defined as 'phytography', as well as from the field of specialist language, which he called 'glossology' (hereinafter referred to as 'terminology'); for the definition of each of these branches of botany he published very detailed indications in 1813.
The present Atlas therefore dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, collecting the progress but also the uncertainties of a scientific discipline still in nuce.
