Specialist Notes

Rare original edition of this work, masterfully illustrated by Francesco Ciche, dedicated to Charles VI. The text evokes a chapter in the history of the Sicilian Inquisition, and precisely the autodafè of the two heretics Sister Geltrude and Fra Romualdo, which was the occasion of a lavish public celebration. The large panels, from the depiction of the trial in front of the Cathedral with the Archbishop's Palace in the background, to the solemn procession from the Palazzo del Sant'Uffizio, to the procession on horseback to the stake in the Navy, represent a fundamental iconographic documentation for Palermo architecture.
