Toulouse, Pierre Bosc, 1651. In the 8th. Frontispiece with engraved vignette, numerous plates with geometric projections engraved in the text, burnishing, woodworm work on the upper white margin of the last 3 cards, coeval binding in calfskin, plates framed by gold fillet, author and title stamped in gold on the back, gap to the cap, slight abrasions and peeling.

Specialist Notes

First edition of the most important work by Antoine de Lalouvère (1600 -1664). French mathematician and Jesuit, the author is famous for being the first to study the properties of the helix, but also for having given an erroneous solution to the questions posed by Pascal about the cycloid.
