Specialist Notes

Second Aldine edition (the first of 1503) in an example of illustrious provenance, but first with the translation by N. Leoniceno of Ptolemy's treatise on the planets and overall more esteemed for the care and annotations of Andrea Navagero. There also appears the painful announcement by Andrea d'Asola for the death of Aldo the Elder and the promise to continue the publication of the Greek and Latin classics. Adams P-2338; Ahmanson-Murphy 141; BL STC / Italian 479; Renouard 78/10.
