La chiesuola fu brevettata a metà del XIX secolo per compensare i problemi di deviazione magnetica che sorgevano sulle navi realizzate in ferro. Le due sfere di ferro dolce che fiancheggiano l'armadietto hanno infatti lo scopo di annullare le deviazioni che risultano dalla posizione della nave nel campo magnetico terrestre. La F. Fuselli è un'azienda fondata a Genova nel 1918, da allora è specializzata nella produzione di bussole magnetiche.
