Specialist Notes

The literary production of the humanist & nbsp; Lilio Gregorio Giraldi & nbsp; (Ferrara 1479 - 1552) is characterized by great thematic and historical syntheses of classical culture, the subject of his intense studies. These are works of erudition greatly appreciated and considered fundamental by distinguished humanists of his contemporaries. Like many scholars of the time, he went in search of patrons moving between Rome, Mirandola, Carpi, Milan, Modena and finally Ferrara. Michel De Montaigne remembered him as a model of a valuable scholar who died in a situation of poverty even if, in reality, G. continued to benefit from the financial aid of the Duchess of Ferrara.
