Ulm, J.S. Medern, 1635. In 2nd. Frontispiece and beautiful portrait of the author within frame engraved in copper, each on double page, complete with 60 sheets of double-page plates, woodworm work, more intense in the inner margin, water millstone in the upper margin, some slight halo and stain, a few slightly burnished papers, sporadic and slight blooms and redness, partially detached Z booklet (plates 57-58), coeval parchment binding, red spray cuts, some halos, slight defects. Signature of belonging to the guard card.



Specialist Notes

First edition of this important illustrated treatise on military and naval architecture. Born in Germany, Joseph Furttenbach (1591-1667) in Italy learned the profession of merchant and deepened his studies of engineering and architecture. After moving to Ulm in 1921, he became a city and public architect & nbsp; Architectura civilis (1628), Navalis (1629) and Martialis (1638) . The treaty is divided into 4 parts: the first dedicated to military architecture, the second to civil architecture, the third focused on the fortification of waterways and the construction of warships, the last part is dedicated to weapons , with splendid representations of cannons. & nbsp;
