First Italian edition of this interesting botanical work. The lot contains only the third volume, which contains over 600 xylographs depicting plants and animals. Descending from an ancient family of pharmacists, Jakob Reinhold Spielmann (1722-1783) followed the atavistic tradition in Strasbourg where he graduated in 1742 to later become a professor of medicine. In the city university, he will also be professor of chemistry and pharmacognosy, devoting himself particularly to drugs for curative use extracted from plants. He was a member of various European academies and of the Royal Academy of Turin which included, among others, illustrious scientists such as Benjamin Franklin and Lazzaro Spallanzani. & Nbsp;
