Specialist Notes

Rare second edition with the same plates of the original edition of 1789, in the work Scarpa describes the auditory and olfactory mechanisms of fish, birds, reptiles and also of man. The eight copper plates were designed by the author. The first five tables deal with zootomic topics, the last three with human anatomy. The first two are engraved by Bededotto Eredi di Firenze, the third does not bear the name of the engraver, but it seems to have been made by Faustino Anderloni, whose name appears under the last five plates. Scarpa, a brilliant artist as well as a brilliant anatomist, studied anatomy in Padua with Morgagni and surgery in Bologna. His legacy includes work on otolaryngology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, neuroanatomy and surgery. & Nbsp;
