How bidding works

Information

Patavii, typis Seminarii, 1741. 4th, pp. 40. Red and black printed title page with woodcut vignette (column raised by winch: Labore et tempore), believed to be the mark of Giambattista Conzatti also initially used by Giuseppe Comino (DBI v. 27, p. 594), but which has so far been found only on the Paduan editions of Poleni's works and therefore a probable emblem of the author.

Specialist Notes

On 25 November 1740, the Theater of Experimental Philosophy was inaugurated at the University of Padua, the first Italian physics laboratory with the specific objective of developing university teaching. Poleni gave the speech Institutionum philosophiae mechanicae experimentalis specimen.
