(...= Every Virtue noted is pomp, and Character of this Theatre. Brescia is its Arena; the Brescians are its statues; Truth is its Sun. The Eulogies that declare its greatness are compendiums of marbles, manuscripts, and real Histories. Sincerity is its perpetual Guard." (p,a3r).< br>
Ottavio Rossi (Brescia, 26 July 1570 – Brescia , 28 September 1630) was an Italian archaeologist, poet and scholar. "he collected interesting news in the Historical praise of illustrious Brescians (1620); as a rhymer he was among the most artificial. He died during the plague epidemic described by Manzoni." (Treccani, on line).
"...Too long a time (alas) BRESCIA buried It lies neglected, now by your hand it rises again; Illustrious OTTAVIO; long forgotten oblivion..." From the proemial sonnet by Lattanzio Stella addressed to the author.
