Specialist Notes

Second edition for the first part and first edition for the second (Disertation sur Elie et Enoch - L'Esope Fabuliste - Traité Mathematique sur le Bonheur). Nicolas Antoine Boulanger, French philosopher and enlightenment scholar (1722 - 1759) participated in the work of the Encyclopedie. His main work "Les Recherches", published posthumously, is a singular work of historical-political analysis: it compares the forms of government on the level of religious beliefs and practices, and from here it comes to illustrate and frame institutions and political forms. The diffusion of the work, which both in the first and in the present second edition was printed without the name of the Author, was very prudent, for fear of the reactions of the ecclesiastical and civil authorities: in 1764 the book was in fact put on the index and burned.
