Turin, Lit. Iunck and Comp.ia, [1842]. [6] p., [8] c. of table lithogr. 440x590 mm. Album of eight lithographs by Francesco Gonin. Title page with title imprinted inside an elaborate elegant border imprinted in sepia with, on the sides, two scenes with knights, another equestrian scene on the lower border and, on the upper border, coat of arms surmounted by a crown; 1 unnumbered card with, on the front, Mirror of the Carosello with H.R.H. indicated. the Duke of Genoa as head of the Carosello and the other protagonists; 8 lithographed plates from subjects by Francesco Gonin. Oxidation phenomena of the boards, due to the waterproofing of the paper in the presence of watercolor coloring.

Specialist Notes

Splendid plates printed in sepia and black on cardboard and delicately colored with period watercolour, 7 depict historical figures on horseback and on foot in the famous "quadrilles" while the first represents a splendid aerial view of Piazza San Carlo in Turin, animated by the carrying out of the Carosello, with the amphitheater and the royal box built specifically for the event (which took place on 22 April 1842) celebrating the marriage of Vittorio Emanuele II with Maria Adelaide of Lorraine, younger daughter of the Archduke of Austria Ranieri, viceroy of Lombardo Veneto, which occurred on 12 April of the same year.
