Provenance
At the beginning of the sixties the house of Wolfsburg wanted to give the Beetle an heir; the new model had to be more modern, maintaining the same basic structure. The technical refinements introduced with the so-called Type 3 (Typ3) concerned the cooling system and the brakes. Also, new is the bodywork, 3-volume and 2-door sedan or 3-door station wagon (called Variant). Thanks to the new cooling system, the engine had a smaller vertical footprint. This solution made it possible to obtain two compartments for luggage and, on the Variant, a free rear loading surface. Launched in 1961 with the trade name of Volkswagen 1500, due to the 1493 cm³ displacement of the 44 hp 4-cylinder boxer, the new model stood out for its robustness, rapid acceleration, reliability and excellent level of finish. Despite having a more modern line, the Type 3 never managed to match the popularity of the original Beetle.
The car
Volkswagen 1500, chassis no. 0372265, is a vehicle from 1964. It is one of the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. It is well-preserved from the external point of view, repainted in its original ruby red (L456); the chrome is in good condition. As for the interiors, they are complete but very worn, especially the front seats that need to be re-upholstered. The mechanical part has been regularly serviced. The car was sold new by the Saottini dealership to its sole owner. Originally registered in Brescia, it was officially removed from the vehicle registry in 1991 but, as per the owner's declaration, has not been driven on public roads since 1981. The engine is the matching number originally mounted, according to documents of the parent company.
State of the art
Bodywork has been restored, interior requires attention, regularly serviced.
