The model
Škoda Works was founded as an arms manufacturer in 1859. ŠKODA AUTO (and its predecessor Laurin & Klement) is the fifth oldest car manufacturing company in the world and has an uninterrupted history alongside Daimler, Opel, Peugeot and Tatra. When the Mladá Boleslav factory was rebuilt at the end of the war in July 1945, production of Škoda cars resumed. In the autumn of 1948, Škoda became part of the planned communist economy, which involved separating from the parent company, Škoda Works. Despite the loss of contacts with technical development in non-communist countries, Škoda maintained a good reputation until the 1960s. The Škoda Felicia is a model produced from 1959 to 1964. The Felicia was introduced in 1959 as a 2-door convertible, replacing the Škoda 450. Able to accommodate five people, it was equipped with a folding top and a plastic hardtop. The style was similar to that of the contemporary Škoda Octavia, produced as a sedan and station wagon. The Felicia was produced only with a 1089 cc four-cylinder engine; however in 1961 a Felicia Super model was introduced powered by a larger 1221 cc unit. A total of 14,863 Felicia were produced. The name Felicia was resurrected by Škoda in 1994 for a new model.
The car
The Škoda Felicia, chassis no. 523191 is of Czechoslovak origin. It is one of the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. The car has been completely and meticulously restored. The restoration is documented by a photographic dossier and a detailed notes. The bodywork, painted in a lively and correct yellow color, and the interior are in impeccable condition; the mechanical parts (engine, gearbox, clutch, brakes, transmission, suspension) are “as new”. Attention to detail is present in every aspect, which is unusual for a vehicle of this category. The tires are of the right size and appear new. The car is in perfect condition. The car is fitted with a black canvas convertible top, also in like new condition, and additionally is equipped with the original plastic hard top, which is in need of restoration.
