Provenance

The model
Officially announced in November 1988, the new version of Porsche 911 takes its name from the project, 964,and marks a real revolution in the models of the German factory, in fact, over 80% of the components of the new 911 are new. The model will see the light in 1989 with a completely redesigned chassis: the 964 marks the end of the torsion bars, present on Porsche models since 1963, in favor of coil springs; the brake system is also revised with self-ventilated 298 mm (front) and 299 mm (rear) brake discs derived from the 928 S4 and is equipped with the Bosch ABS anti-lock system. The engine is also completely new though it remains a 6-cylinder boxer, labelled M64/01 with a capacity of 3.6 liters, equipped with a new block in light alloy and double ignition, with a maximum power of 250 hp at 6,100 rpm and a torque of 310 Nm at 4,800 rpm. Also, new is the 5-speed gearbox type G64/00, with the rear limited slip-differential and, in the Carrera 4 version, with transmission also to the front wheels, both electronically controlled. Another technical novelty of the all-wheel drive 964 is the possibility of locking the differentials manually, by means of a command inside the passenger compartment, in order to increase traction allowing the car to face even situations of really poor grip (the automatic system retakes control over 40 km/h). The 964 Carrera 4 is recognized by many enthusiasts as one of the best Porsches on the snow, able to cope with conditions which would otherwise be prohibitive for a sports car of this type. Externally, the 964 presents a new design of the front and rear bumpers, effectively plastic shields. A small electrically operated spoiler is installed on the bonnet, while the by now traditional red reflective strip with the Porsche logo remains between the rear lights. The Cabriolet version of the new Porsche 911 made its debut in 1990, in the so-called L program, also within the scope of the 964 project. The open top version, available in both Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 versions, made its debut on the market together with the more "conservative" Targa version. The convertible featuring a folding fabric hood with automated control and plastic rear window. In the same year, Porsche launched the new Tiptronic 4-speed automatic transmission, available only on the Carrera 2. The Porsche 964 remained in production until 1994 with slight changes to the line and updates to the equipment, such as the airbags added in 1991. The 964 Carrera 4 is the fullest expression of the Porsche 911, a car that can be used every day in all weather and road conditions: the air conditioning, sunroof and the deflector for the interior allow you to fully enjoy the Cabriolet on summer days. In winter, if equipped with suitable snow tires, the 964 Carrera 4 can cope with icy or snow-covered roads. And, if the Porsche 911 is the sports car capable of covering long distances lithely, the Carrera 4 version also improves driving quality in bad weather conditions, a challenging experience with the rear-wheel drive version.
The car
The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, chassis no.WPOZZZ96ZMS451419, was built in 1991 and has covered 97,507 km. It comes from the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. The car is preserved and the bodywork shows no signs of discoloration or wear, the interiors are in their original leather in an exquisitely preserved condition. The fabric covering of the soft top is in perfect condition, without tearing or discoloration; the rear window is also in excellent condition. Thanks to the accessories, this 964 can be used all year round with the convertible top open; in summer thanks to the air conditioning as well as in spring/autumn and, fort hose who dare, in winter thanks to its heated seats. Stability and traction are guaranteed by all-wheel drive. The additional accessories that equip the car are 17" cup wheels, much admired by enthusiasts, dark band on the windshield, on-board computer, symphony radio and airbags for driver and passenger. Features an additional black soft top.
State of the art
Preserved, in excellent condition.
