Provenance

Private collection, Recco;
Private collection, Rome.
In terms of size and workmanship, the work presented here reveals affinities with the still lifes created by the Genoese artist between the mid-1930s and early 1940s. See, for example, the still life entitled Flowers exhibited at the 1935 Quadriennale and re-proposed in 1940 at the Guglielmi Gallery in Milan. The compositions created around 1940, such as this one, are distinguished in particular by the presence of colorful flowers on dark backgrounds, rendered with elegant harmonies of browns and a brushstroke dripping with pictorial material reminiscent of Mancini.
