Specialist Notes

As reported in the Archive of the Municipality of Milan in the Population Register of 1811, it appears that the painter Luigi Sabatelli "has lived for 3 years at Civic Num. 1923 First Floor of the house owned by Francesco Bacchetta". On the back of one of the two portraits, namely the female one, dated October 14, 1822, we discover a real cenacle around Sabatelli in those years; the presence of Abbondio Bagutti, a colleague of Sabatelli, and a painter of good quality, is also noted. As a sign of gratitude, the great artist - master in Brera - created these two portraits for the hosts with a dedication.
They clearly demonstrate the technical expertise of Sabatelli, one of the greatest exponents of Italian neoclassicism and not detached from a new romantic ferment, who was also a celebrated engraver.
