Provenance

Private collection, Bolzano.
The painting, coming from a parental branch of the painter in Bolzano, represents an absolute unicum in the production of the famous painter and engraver. Of great expressive power, he created it (by family tradition) in the years between Munich and Paris, that is to say in the very early twentieth century, in open dialogue with the best of the vonstuckian secession (see W. Kirschl, Carl Moser 1873-1939, Innsbruck 1989). With a feral and faunal flavor in an almost caricatured physiognomy, he gives a magnetizing and fantastically remote, rather than defiant, gaze. The result is a gem in the painter's production, of absolute charm.
