An important and rare general officer's small sword, 1815 - 1820 circa

length 85 cm.
Blade of triangular section with hollow sides, engraved and gilded on blue background with trophies and floral motifs at the first part. Beautiful, gilded-bronze hilt (small abrasions), shell-guard with Medusa's heads in relief between two winged lions and a snake in high relief under floral decorations. Quillon and loop-guard decorated with floral motifs in bas-relief, pommel shaped as a helmet. Checkered horn grip grooved with staves on the corners, central trophy featuring the Savoy's cross at the front. Wooden scabbard covered with leather (small damaged and missing parts) and with gilded bronze mounts engraved with rocaille. Two suspension rings. It probably belonged to a Piedmontese artillery general, as shown by the Savoy's cross on the grip and the Medusa's head on the shell-guard.
