Nils Liedholm, born in Valdemarsvik, Sweden, on 8 October 1922 and died in Cuccaro Monferrato on 5 November 2007, was a Swedish footballer and coach, considered one of the greatest midfielders of all time. Known as "The Baron" for his elegance and impeccable style of play, Liedholm left an indelible mark on the world of football, both as a player and as a coach.
Liedholm's football career began in Sweden with IFK Norrköping, where he won two national championships. In 1949 he moved to Milan, where he became a legend. With the Rossoneri Liedholm won 4 Scudetti, 2 Latin Cups and a Champions Cup in 1963.
After retiring from football in 1961, Liedholm embarked on a highly successful coaching career. At the helm of Milan, he won his fifth Scudetto in 1962-63. He subsequently coached several Italian teams, including Roma, Verona, Fiorentina and Lazio, achieving notable results. His greatest success as a coach came with Roma, which he led to the victory of the first Scudetto in its history in 1982-83.
Nils Liedholm was a true master of football. His elegance, tactical intelligence and leadership made him a point of reference for generations of footballers and coaches.
