Joseph Paul "Joe" DiMaggio, born Giuseppe Paolo Di Maggio (Martinez, November 25, 1914 – Hollywood, March 8, 1999), was an American baseball player, one of the most successful in the history of the sport and holder of the record of 56 consecutive games with at least one hit (May 15-July 16, 1941). During his career, DiMaggio played for 13 seasons in Major League Baseball, always with the New York Yankees. He won the World Series 9 times, participated in 13 All-Star Games and was named MVP 3 times. He also led the league in batting average, home runs and RBI twice each. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. Outside of his sports career, he is also known for being the husband of Marilyn Monroe.
