Franco Baresi (Travagliato, 8 May 1960) is a former Italian footballer, a defender, considered one of the strongest players in history. Throughout his career he has always played for Milan, a team for which he played for twenty seasons (from 1977 to 1997) of which fifteen as captain, becoming the second player with the most appearances in both the championship and European cups. With the Rossoneri he won six championships, three European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and four Italian Super Cups; together with his teammates Mauro Tassotti, Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta he composed one of the best defensive lines in the history of football which allowed Milan to set the record for consecutive matches without defeat (58) in the five main European championships (from 26 May 1991 to March 14, 1993, i.e. one year, 9 months and 16 days). World champion in 1982 and runner-up in 1994 with the Italian national team, he played with the Azzurri for thirteen years, wearing the captain's armband from 1991 to 1994. With the national team he participated in a total of three world championships (Spain 1982, Italy 1990 and United States 1994) and two European championships (Italy 1980 and West Germany 1988).
