Colored copper engraving, Nuremberg, ca. 1716, 53.5 x 60 cm. Impressive and symbolically rich cartouche: a female figure representing the Papal States, five little angels playing with a prelatical hat, a mitre, a papal cross, a pastoral staff and a three-armed one, coat of arms of Pope Clement XI. With passepartout.
Specialist Notes
This large map is among the best known of the Papal States and was prepared by Iohann Baptist Homann in the early eighteenth century for his atlases.
