Specialist Notes

II work: Rare pamphlet distributed by Pietro Bortolotti (d. 1860), who patented the perfume "Acqua di Felsina", which also became a "true and unique prodigious medicine, a 'pleasant' comfort against diseases and ailments", so much so that in an advertisement from 1835 its use in Genoa to combat the cholera epidemic is reported. In 1876 it won the gold medal at the Philadelphia Exhibition and in 1878 in Paris - at the World Exhibition - it obtained the only medal awarded in this category, "for its true healthy qualities and its pleasant perfume", beating the most renowned French and English maisons.
