Specialist Notes
Fifth edition of the Fioretti di San Francesco, the princeps dates back to 1476, EXTREMELY RARE. Edition published by Steffen Arndes from Hamburg, later the largest publisher in Lübeck, who began his career as a printer in Perugia, working his way up, as they say, in the shop of a printer also from beyond the Alps: Johannes Krag «de High Alamania." However, while the latter does not seem to have left many traces of his activity, at least in Perugia, in just a few years Arndes made a real climb that transformed him from an apprentice to a publisher.
